Job Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Women’s Group Home Resident Staff person to join our team in Newport News. In this role, you will reside at the Mission full time, providing essential support and care to residents in our new group home, helping them rebuild their lives with dignity and respect through the hope of Christ.

Responsibilities

  • Live in a Mission provided suite at the group home.
  • Safety and Security: Monitoring the home, enforcing house rules, ensuring a safe secure environment.
  • Communication and Rapport: Building positive relationships with residents and staff, creating a supportive and inclusive environment.
  • Program and Activity Support: Encouraging resident participation in programs and activities, and assisting with their implementation.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintaining accurate records of residents, incident reports, and other relevant documentation.
  • Emergency Response: Responding appropriately to emergencies (medical, operational, and relational) and ensuring the safety of residents and staff. Resident staff must be able to de-escalate heated situations involving residents that are at odds with one another.
  • Administration: Working in the office, answering phones, assisting with intake process, assisting with program implementation.
  • Transportation: Driving residents to appointments, church, etc., running errands for the ministry.
  • Ministry: In all things always ministering to the residents and pointing them to Christ.
  • Other: Duties as assigned, light cleaning and upkeep of the home.
Qualifications
  • Every position at PRM is essential in the fulfillment of our ministry and Mission Statement. As such, applicants must have a relationship with Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord.
  • Ability and willingness to share the Gospel and participate in the spiritual activities of Peninsula Rescue Mission including leading/participating in prayer, devotions, Bible studies, etc.
  • Active membership in a church of like-faith and be known as a person of Godly character among the leadership and membership of that church.
  • Agreement with the Peninsula Rescue Mission Statement of Faith and Employee Handbook.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work varying hours possibly including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Time management skills, ability to multitask and prioritize work.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and problem solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurability by PRM.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
