# Operations Engineer, Junior - NASA AFRC

## The Opportunity
The Operations Engineer will play a critical role in supporting research and development activities at NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC). This position requires leadership capabilities to perform a full spectrum of Engineering duties and requires thorough understanding of Engineering principles.
## What You'll Do
### Engineering and Integration
You'll define and manage system requirements, risk, and integration strategies while supporting aircraft operations, modifications, maintenance planning, and troubleshooting. As an operational engineer for AFRC manned and unmanned projects, you'll be involved in the development of autonomous aircraft technologies and flight vehicle integration procedures across NASA and partner organizations.
Your responsibilities will include maintaining aircraft configuration management covering manuals, directives, TCTOs, Airworthiness Directives, and Maintenance Directives. You'll prepare and manage Certificates of Authorization (COAs) and lead or support flight test planning, including test card development. Active participation in Operations, Mission Rule, and Systems Safety Working Groups will be part of your daily work.
You'll develop procedures for assembly, installation, and integration of scientific instruments into NASA aircraft. Project analysis will involve developing execution plans and supporting safety reviews, including hazard documentation, FMEA, and mitigation planning. You'll review project instructions to confirm requirements, specifications, and objectives while recommending solutions to technical issues.
Conducting and overseeing system and component tests and research studies for performance improvements, development, and quality control will be essential to the role. You'll record and analyze test procedures, results, and data, providing recommendations for improvements.
### Leadership, Research, and Project Management
You'll drive research and development initiatives supporting NASA aerospace advancements. Leading Tech Briefs, risk assessments, and strategic planning for flight test programs falls within your scope, as does representing the Ops Engineering branch in pre-mission deployments.
## What We're Looking For
- U.S. citizenship required with ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance if required
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM field
- 0-2 years of relevant experience
- Ability to work 9/80 schedule (alternating Fridays off) with core hours 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Daily onsite work at Edwards location required
- Some travel anticipated both locally and long distance by car or plane
## Compensation and Benefits
Salary range: USD $67,300.00/year to USD $112,400.00/year (actual compensation determined based on factors permitted by law)
