JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Paraprofessional

LOCATION: Elementary Contracted Special Education Paraprofessional

SUMMARY To assist in providing effective instruction and creating a positive learning environment to meet student needs

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TYPICAL TASKS The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Assist teacher with daily instruction
• Assist in providing a safe learning climate
• Other duties assigned by the teacher and principal

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of primary school activities and programs and the general organization and functions of the school system, Sensitivity to persons with different backgrounds is essential when communicating, Ability to lead others and gain the respect of parents and teachers and community members.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

2 year degree or passed Parapro test. Demonstrated qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, staff, administrators, and parents are required. Must possess good moral character.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS

Frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting, up to approximately 30 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment and/or materials weighing up to approximately 40 pounds may be required. Other limited physical activities are required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing
