Responsible for providing instruction and performing lab related activities for the Cosmetology program. A Career Certificate Program (CCP) Instructor will spend approximately 80% of the time teaching and 20% of the time handling classroom administration. Duties include, but are not limited to, outreach, student issues and advisement, developing curriculum, book and materials, assessing student’s proficiency, managing lab and field work and clinical activities, and maintaining program standards. Must be able to work with Coordinator and Manager on classroom related issues to include inventory, equipment, purchase orders and daily operational tasks. The percentage of time spent teaching and handling classroom administration tasks may shift slightly depending on class scheduling during the term. Assigned locations may change with the needs of the program.
Responsibilities
Teaches courses in accordance with published course descriptions, schedules, procedures, and course outlines furnished to students.
Develops testing instruments, conducts on-going evaluation, assesses students’ proficiency, prepares grade reports of student progress, and maintains records of student course performance.
Administers final examinations as provided in College’s procedure.
Interacts with students both within and outside the instructional, student and academic setting in a professional and ethical manner.
Designs and prepares curriculum of course related materials.
Prepares and delivers online training content in support of classroom instruction.
Recommends changes to teaching curriculum.
Participates in the development and implementation of staff development activities.
Works with other faculty and staff on quality assurance activities.
Advises students on college related matters.
Assists students in proper procedures and practices.
Maximizes learning and retention through the use of skill building resources and maintains program standards.
Follows established safety practices.
Prepares solutions and lab chemicals and obtains specimens and operates autoclave.
Conducts basic maintenance on lab equipment.
Assists with the development, evaluation, and purchase of lab and program materials and resources.
Maintains quality and quantity of test bank materials and security of state exit exams with input from the department chair.
Schedules and maintains at minimum the number of student contact hours as prescribed in DBOT rule.
Selects textbooks and materials.
Coordinates resources with textbook and course syllabus to ensure a successful program.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Four years fulltime work experience; minimum academic preparation must be at the same level at which the instructor is teaching
Knowledge of: Microsoft Office Professional or similar application
Skilled in: Attention to detail while maintaining effective time and task management
Skilled in: Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication
Ability to: Demonstrate the use of technology in the classroom; must be able to use the technology required for the assigned course
Work a flexible schedule including nights and weekend, and on multiple campuses if needed
Current State of Florida Cosmetology licensing/registration required
Three years of verifiable salon or spa work experience.
Must demonstrate cultural competency to engage and work with a diverse student and employee population
